About the Program

The Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA) Community Residency program, offered through the support of the NYS Department of Education, is an arts engagement program that places three (3) artists in residence at community-based organizations throughout the Bronx. The program provides selected artists with a stipend in exchange for creating and delivering arts programming for youth.  

  1. BCA seeks experienced artists to lead a 12-week residency in collaboration with Bronx-based community organizations. The selected artists will commit to offering weekly, in-person, 90-minute workshops over the course of 12 weeks. 
  2. The program aims to engage Bronx youth with the benefits of creative expression. Successful candidates will have experience teaching and working with youth and will possess a passion for arts education. Applicants must be residents of the Bronx.  

Selected artists will receive a stipend of $3,000 and will work with a community-based organization to refine project goals and coordinate a schedule for residency activities and the use of facilities. Individual artists are expected to provide a minimum of 18 contact hours of activity during the length of the residency, which must be completed by June 15, 2025.

  • Open call for individual artists aged 18 and older
  • Artists must be a resident of The Bronx 

SELECTION PROCESS AND EVALUATION CRITERIA 

Representatives from the Bronx Council on the Arts will review applications to select semi-finalists. Selected semi-finalists will be interviewed by BCA staff and a representative of the partner organization, who will determine the finalist. Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Artistic excellence of the proposed workshops       
  • Potential impact on participants       
  • Clarity and detail of the project proposal       
  • Experience teaching and working with youth 

RESIDENCY AWARD REQUIREMENTS 

  • The residency award is a contract for services
  • Selected artists will be subject to the following requirements: (1) sign and return a residency agreement, (2) track evaluative data, as requested; (3) complete a minimum of 18 contact hours; and (4) submit a final report after completion of the program       

Artists who do not comply with the requirements will jeopardize their funding and future BCA grants and residency consideration.

Describe your goals and objectives for the participants and the entire series. Describe the space and tools necessary to conduct the program. Note: Any supply costs will not be covered by BCA. Describe the artistic activities that will be offered, including information about the expected progression of the course, such as a breakdown of week-to-week activities and an explanation of the intents and purposes behind them.

Applicants will not be able to submit after 11:59 PM on Friday, February 7, 2025. BCA suggests not waiting until the night of the deadline to submit in case there are technical difficulties. DEADLINE

  All applications must be received no later than 11:59 PM on February 7, 2025.  Applicants will be notified of their application status and, if selected, which community-based organization by mid-March 2025.  Residencies will take place between March 24, 2025 and June 15, 2025.
