About the Program
The Bronx Council on the Arts is seeking two artists with teaching experience to lead 12-week residencies in collaboration with Bronx-based community organizations. The selected artists will commit to offer one online 90-minute workshop per week over the 12-week engagement.
The program aims to engage Bronx communities with the benefits of creative expression. Successful candidates will have experience teaching and working with under-served communities, and will possess a passion for arts education. Applicants must be a resident of the Bronx .
The program provides selected artists with a stipend in the amount of $2,000 in exchange for the creation and delivery of Zoom-based arts programming. Programming will be selected based on the preferences of the organizations hosting the residencies, and based on on the wants and needs of the communities they serve. Selected artists will work with the matched organization to further define project goals and coordinate a schedule for residency activities and use of facilities.
Teaching artists are welcome to apply to one or both organizations. The following organizations are participating in the 2022 Artist Residency Program:
Empowering Marginalized Women and Girls
Empowering Marginalized Women & Girls Inc (EMWG) is an organization that prevents first time and reoccurring homelessness in at risk women by addressing the underlying causes in homelessness such as, mental health disorders, poor health, poverty and domestic violence. EMWG engages at risk women and girls in skill building activities, mental health groups, homeless intervention services and health education.
Vibrant Emotional Health: Family and Youth Peer Services
Family and Youth Peer Services (FYPS) is staffed by family and youth advocates who have shared similar experiences to the youth we serve. FYPS aims to reduce the isolation and stress that youth and families undergo when a young person is experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties, opening the doorway for personal empowerment. Through one-to-one support, as well as our evidence-based parenting classes and workshops, families and youth can find the resources and skills that allow them to feel capable and confident in responding to the unique challenges that life can present. This artist residency will provide workshops for youth ages X - X.
Application Deadline: January 31st. All components of the application must be received no later than 11:59 PM on January 31st. Applicants will be notified of their application status and, if selected, which organization they will work with in mid-February. Residencies will take place between February 15, 2022 and May 31, 2022.
